Our Philosophy

The Trinidad and Tobago Youth Philharmonic (TTYP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to music education and performance excellence among the youth of Trinidad & Tobago.

“The aim or final purpose of all the music is to be only for the glory of God and the soul’s enjoyment. Wherever this is not taken into consideration, there cannot really be music.” Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750).

“The world of music is so close to the essence of God, and to serve God from within the soul of an art form that reflects Him is such a fundamental and beautiful and indescribable way, is truly my life’s happiness.” Dr. Jose Antonio Abreu (Founder and President of FESHNOJIV, Venezuela).

Plato, (c. 427-347 B.C) referred to as the greatest thinker known to western civilization, wrote extensively about the power of music upon society: "Let me write the music for the country, and I care not who writes the laws."

“The life of the arts, far from being an interruption, a distraction, in the life of the nation, is close to the center of a nation's purpose - and is a test to the quality of a nation's civilization.” John. F Kennedy

Our Mission

TTYP's mission is to establish an orchestral tradition as the leading youth symphony and orchestra in the Caribbean, and to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of symphonic music through a rich variety of concert genres, including baroque, classical, jazz, pop and Caribbean music all year round.

Our Dream

TTYP’s vision is to be the Caribbean’s premier center preparing students for tertiary level studies in the performing arts! Such a vision justifies the urgency of having our own home to teach, students to practice, conduct workshops, chamber and orchestra rehearsals without disturbing neighbors, host concerts, store all our large instruments, etc. After 13 years we have far outgrown the facilities, goodwill and generosity of the  University School, Bakers Street, St. Augustine.

This vision and appeal for your investment to give to a giving organization like TTYP, is more than an investment in music education. Indeed it is an investment in teamwork and comradeship, discipline, crime and poverty reduction, employment, nurturing model citizens, national pride and nation building for future generations, teaching our young people excellence, to be the best that they can be in whatever field of endeavour. I urge you to carefully and prayerfully consider our sponsorship commitment as outlined in our sponsorship package. We all stand to benefit.
